Round 2 submissions are limited to attractions and discoveries**
Are you interested in sharing your undergraduate research and hope to publish your work but you’re NOT a Rice student? For 2025-2026 publication cycle, we are opening submissions for abstract calls from outside universities, and we would love the opportunity to share the research that is being performed outside of Rice with our community.
If you hope to submit an abstract, review the FAQs that have been prepared below, as well as the attached flyer. How can I get involved?
You can join any of the following sections:
Attractions, which focuses on short-form expository writing meant to help the general public engage in scientific discourse.
Discoveries, which exposes the general public to intriguing scientific topics by publishing brief blog posts on the official Catalyst website. Check out a few highlights from Discoveries, our frequently updated online blog, on our home page!
Regardless of whether you have performed your own research, worked under a PI/professor, or have conducted your own literature review on a topic of your interest, you are eligible to apply for an abstract submission.
What does the general timeline look like?
*October, November, December: Writing and editing process will occur within each section, with the peer editing process varying amongst each section.
*If you have a paper previously written, the editing process will likely entail condensing the content and making the topic approachable for a general audience.
Early winter: Selection of articles to be published
January, February: Final roundtables with an editor-in-chief or publication director, beginning of designing process if selected.
Late Spring: Annual publication is printed and distributed
Where can I find more information and submit an abstract?
All past publications are available virtually through this website, here is our google form to submit an abstract of either an already written article or a brief description of what you hope to write over the course of the academic school year.
